iRiver Clix

iPod iSchmod. All I need is my iriver clix. It's a great little 4GB MP3 player with an easy-to-use menu interface. There are very few buttons, because you press on the top/bottom/left/right sides of the screen to navigate through the menu. It's a pretty clever UI. Looks-wise, it's just as slick & sexy as the iPod (I swear the pictures don't do it justice). The clix plays music, photos, videos and Flash games -- mine came pre-installed with Sudoku and Frogger. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a loop for a lanyard, so I had to buy a silicone skin accessories kit.

The clix costs $199.99 and is a great present for anyone who wants an MP3 player but doesn't want to worship at the altar of iPod.

Japanese Comickers

Here's what I'm currently reading:

Japanese Comickers
The tagline for this book is "Draw anime and manga like Japan's hottest artists". The book features gorgeous art by 14 incredible artists, and includes a step-by-step guide on how the pieces were created. Various techniques are featured, including PhotoShop, Copic marker & airbrush, ink blotting, and Liquitex.

Japanese Comickers 2
The second book in the series. Same concept, but different artists. It features Korean & Chinese artists, in addition to Japanese ones. IMHO, the art is better in this book than the other one, so if you're looking to buy just one book, I'd recommend this one.
Seriously though, these books makes me want to quit my job, leave the corporate life and become a starving manga artist. Makes me wish I'd ignored my parents' wishes and gone to art school instead.

Hello World.

What is this blog about?
My interests. High tech, gadgets, anime, manga, video games, comic books, drama, Asian culture, art, fashion, food, and life in Silicon Valley. All from the female perspective.

Who are you?
Just a girl. I programmed my ass off in college, got a computer science degree, then started working in Silicon Valley. I'm an otaku and a geek. I love to draw and I adore food.

What does "gotaku" mean?
Girl + Otaku = Gotaku. Also inspired by Kotaku, one of my favorite video game blogs.
